Which of the following Form Factors/Attributes most closely matches the type of load measuring product (Load Cell) best suited for your application?
Most customers require a specific size or mechanical construction/configuration to suit the application or installation requirement needs.
Selecting the appropriate product for the application or installation is important. The product needs to conform to and perform to the customer need. There are specific “form factors” that exist for meeting the most widely used products.
Low Profile – Referred to as a “pancake style” load cell where the diameter is much larger than the height and gives a resemblance of a “flat” or “pancake” look. This diameter to height Ratio is 3:1. Ranges supported by this form factor are 5lbs. to 200K lbs. Low profile style products have become the primary selection of choice as the style of load cells used nowadays as long as there are not mechanical constraints. They usually yield very good performance characteristics.
Referred to as a “coffee can” style load cell where the diameter is smaller than the height and gives the resemblance of a “can”. This diameter to height ratio is 0.5. Ranges supported by this form factor are 100lbs. to 3 million lbs.
Referred to as a “small” load cell. Typically selected when installation space is a consideration. The diameter is larger than the height and provides a small and compact package. This diameter to height Ratio is 1.6:1. Ranges supported by this form factor are 50grams to 10,000lbs..
Referred to as “the smallest” of the load cells. Typically selected when installation space or weight is at a premium. The diameter is larger than the height and provides the smallest and most compact, lightweight package. This diameter to height Ratio is 1.6:1. Ranges supported by this form factor are 150grams to 1000lbs..
Referred to as “S & Z” Beams because their final shape and look resembles the letters S and Z.. Typically selected for general load measurement where the load will remain in a consistent direction, without side or offset loads acting on it Ranges supported by this form factor are 150grams to 1000lbs.
Referred to as a “Donut” load cell with a hollow center. Typically selected when the need to run an attachment piece or shaft or cable through the center of the load cell without disturbing the mounting or installation intentions. Ranges supported by this form factor are 150grams to 200Klbs..
Typically these cells also are designed to minimize the overall diameter sizes and will have smaller diameters then a canister version. Typically selected when attachment to the measured force is required to be “in-line” (i.e. – measuring cable tension or installed in-line with a hydraulic actuator). Ranges supported by this form factor are 2,000lbs to 100Klbs..
Form factors listed in the special applications section are usually specific to an application, or, have other “non-standard” and special needs facets. If your requirements are not found in the Special Applications or other “general” form factor product sections, please consult the factory for assistance. We have the capability to design, manufacture and supply virtually any Load Cell measurement need
